I can easily see what transactions haven't cleared, or where the downloaded transaction is a different amount than I had entered. Quicken's automatic download from my checking account then helps me reconcile what I planned vs. I enter upcoming checking account transactions (either as recurring, or manual one-time entries) when I schedule them, even if they're weeks or months in the future.
